Writing letter to Swiss authorities

LAHORE: The government's point of view regarding writing a letter to Swiss authorities would be known on July 12 this year, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf told editors of newspapers here at the Governor's House on Saturday.

Terming uncertainty in the country harmful for national institutions, he said that giving extraordinary importance to any single issue was detrimental to democracy.

The Prime Minister said that the government's point of view on rental power issue had not been put forth and understood correctly. He said that his government's top priority was to overcome energy crisis in the country.

He also stressed on the need for all institutions to remain within their ambit.

Commenting on the army's role, Ashraf said that this institution had served the country in various modes such as anti-terrorism and flood relief operations. He said that marinating the law and order was a provincial subject, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that if any province sought federal government's help in this regard, would be given a supportive hand.

The Prime Minister also visited the Mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He also visited residence of former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Governor Punjab Latif Khosa accompanied him during these visits.

APP adds: Uncertainty was damaging the country's political system and the opposition should not forget that Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif had resolved to avoid leg pulling for political gains. He urged all institutions to work for the betterment of the country and stability of the political system and expressed the resolve that the government would abide by the law and protect Parliament and the Constitution.
